Domestic Hot Water/pool
Preparation of Domestic Hot Water (DHW) with geysers or boilers is not only inefficient, energy consuming, expensive and harmful to environment, but also puts pressure on the national grid and leads to instable grid and power outages. The new building regulations in South Africa require for new buildings a 50% generation for DHW from other sources than electricity. Heat pumps fulfill this new regulation quite easily.
In an insulated buffer tank DHW will be heated by the heat pump via a heat exchanger or an inserted coil. The size of the buffer tank is dependent of your DHW requirements and the number of peoples living at your premises. Usually the size of this buffer tank should not exceed 1000 liters. As the preset temperature is freely programmable, an energy saving temperature of 50-55°C is most efficient with a minimum of losses. The heat pump has an integrated legionella program which heats up the tank in timely intervals in order to prevent for Legionella growth. Additional heating for DHW is not required for hot water up to 70°C, higher temperatures can be provided with an extra build in device, if wanted.
As soon as the temperature in the buffer tank has reached the preset temperature, the heat pump stops working or switches automatically to warm up your pool.
During wintertime hot water will be prepared for heating purposes and powers the underfloor heating system (UFH) or can be used to feed existing fan coils to warm up air, a small buffer tank (100-300 l) is part of this heating circuit.
During summer this circuit will switch to summer mode and will perform all your required cooling and air conditioning just by producing cold water. In this case the heat pump will extract energy from your rooms (thus cooling your premises) and use this energy to feed DHW and/or pool circuits or dump the energy to ground or air.
This integrated system enables simultaneous heating, cooling and DHW – preparation with highest possible COP’s.
